Vegas Cosmetic Surgery Conference

I just had the pleasure of attending my favorite conference last month and achieving a whopping 44 hours of high quality up-to-date information.  The highlight of the event was the consensus panel addressing the recent FDA warning regarding the potential vascular accident dangers of dermal fillers.  There was an outstanding discussion of prevention, recognition, and treatment.  Smoothskin is pleased to have been offering fillers exclusively with microcannulas for 3.5 years. I had the distinct pleasure of spending last Thursday evening and Friday afternoon with the world renown plastic surgeon Dr. Mauricio de Maio for an insightful lecture and an intensive live injection small group workshop.  Seven hours with this distinguished and brilliant physician will bring great things to my Voluma™ practice.  Dr. de Maio has an uncanny ability to evaluate the needs of individual patients and is an amazing teacher at conveying those concepts.  His injection approach to cheek enhancement with Voluma™ produces consistently excellent outcomes and is highly reproducible.  The greatest take-away was how much can be accomplished with just 1 ml (1 syringe) of Voluma™.  Although additional vials may be necessary for optimal results.  I am already seeing the magic by putting this technique to work!  Many thanks to Dr. de Maio and Allergan. Blunt Cannulas for Fillers

I attended the Vegas Cosmetic Surgery Symposium this month put on by The MuliSpecialty Foundation and learned so much about this exciting new delivery method of your favorite fillers. 

Normally, fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm require many needle sticks to the face and lips to achieve desired results, sometimes 15 -20 or more.

Blunt cannulas, Dermasculpt brand for example, have a soft rounded tip (no point) and can gently move through the tissues of the face to reach the places that need filler.

Because they are blunt, they DO NOT cause painful pricks or cutting and rupturing of tiny blood vessels which cause bruising.   The small blood vessels get gently nudged aside as the blunt tip gently glides through the tissue.  Blunt cannulas only require several and possibly as few as 2 superficial needle "starter holes" to create an entry point for he cannulas.

My early experience supports the claims that there is far less trauma to the tissues resulting in less pain, swelling, & bruising.  The results appear smoother and I am able to fill areas previously off-limits due to vascular risk such as the glabellar, the temples, & under eye hollows / dark circles.
