BOTOX approved by FDA for Crow's Feet

EXCITING NEWS!: BOTOX® Cosmetic received FDA approval this week for the indication of crow's feet. This area has been treated safely and effectively for years as an off-label application. Formal studies have led to recent FDA approval. This is the first additional area to be approved since BOTOX first received FDA approval back in 2002 for frown lines. Crow's feet is the starburst wrinkle pattern that fans our around the outer corners of your eyes when you smile or squint. A series of BOTOX injections in an arc around this area relaxes the tightened muscles smoothing out the overlying skin. The eyes appear more open, rested, and younger. Folks from all over the northeast focused on learning as much as they could about laser tattoo removal in the hopes of beginning this service or improving what they already offer. They asked lots of questions and I got to share my robust experience as a thought leader and expert in laser tattoo removal. I had the pleasure of presenting a 3 hour Laser Tattoo Removal Workshop on Thursday March 14th at Cynosure, Inc. headquarters in Westford, MA. The evening consisted of my lecture, questions & answers, and a live demonstration with the Revlite laser. The event was well-attended and a great success. I really enjoy teaching and am scheduled for another presentation soon to inform other health care providers interested in the field of laser tattoo removal.

Obamacare Forces Filler Prices Higher

During a strained and struggling economy, it grieves me to have to raise any prices. In fact, I have offered deep discounts to the best of my ability since the economic collapse in late 2008. But over the past 2 weeks, the U.S. companies that manufacture and supply my fillers have raised their costs to me as a purchasing physician. They have both directly attributed this increase in part to the federally mandated excise tax on medical device manufacturers. This new tax is part of the legislation under the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). I pledge to raise my prices only to directly match the percent increase that I must pay to acquire my materials. As always, I stand firmly with integrity to continue purchasing my JUVÉDERM® and RESTYLANE® only directly from Allergan, Inc. (Irvine, CA) and Medicis Pharmaceutical Corporation (Scottsdale, AZ) who operate under regulation by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA). I caution you, as I have in the past, that these higher costs could increase the incentives for other providers to cut corners and import products from Canada or other countries creating a safety risk to you.

Update: Dermasculpt, Oxygenetix, & new Staff!

Clients have been absolutely thrilled this past month with the results of the Dermasculpt method of delivering facial filler.  I have been able to do comprehensive facial filler rejuvenation that I could have never imagined before with needles.

Continuing Medical Education, Las Vegas

Blunt Cannulas for Fillers

I attended the Vegas Cosmetic Surgery Symposium this month put on by The MuliSpecialty Foundation and learned so much about this exciting new delivery method of your favorite fillers. 

Normally, fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm require many needle sticks to the face and lips to achieve desired results, sometimes 15 -20 or more.

Blunt cannulas, Dermasculpt brand for example, have a soft rounded tip (no point) and can gently move through the tissues of the face to reach the places that need filler.

Because they are blunt, they DO NOT cause painful pricks or cutting and rupturing of tiny blood vessels which cause bruising.   The small blood vessels get gently nudged aside as the blunt tip gently glides through the tissue.  Blunt cannulas only require several and possibly as few as 2 superficial needle "starter holes" to create an entry point for he cannulas.

My early experience supports the claims that there is far less trauma to the tissues resulting in less pain, swelling, & bruising.  The results appear smoother and I am able to fill areas previously off-limits due to vascular risk such as the glabellar, the temples, & under eye hollows / dark circles.

Smoothskin gets Greener

You may notice a "little sister" dumpster when you now pull into our parking lot.  When my daughter worked in the office over the holidays, she was surprised to see how many cardboard cartons pass through our doors as our supplies are shipped in.  It bothered her that these were going into the regular waste.  It took some effort and rearranging but we are now proudly participating in single stream RECYCLING!  Thank you Gina :)
